What's on the Menu?

Do you know what you are eating when you order off a menu at your favorite restaurant?

Most of us don't think much about it.  We go to a restaurant, order what we want to eat and enjoy our meal.  Maybe we are being food concious, so we order and only eat 1/2 our meal.  Or...we order a salad.

Would you believe me if I told you a salad at Applebee's is probably going to cost you over 800 calories!  Chicken Fajitas at the same restaurant will cost you over 1300 calories...even eating 1/2 is 650 calories and way too much for one meal!

What do you do???

When you go to a restaurant, ask for a nutritional menu. Most restaurants now have them available or can print them.  I know for a fact that Applebee's, Macaroni Grill, Olive Garden, The Counter...all have nutritional menus.  And, if you don't want to ask, do your research before you go!

We had one of those days today where we were on the go from the time we walked out the door.  And, quite honestly, between taking one vehicle to get repaired, work, and shopping for a baby shower, I left the house at 730am and iddn't get back until 930pm.  So, we ate three meals out today and I still ate less than 1800 calories (with additional snacks that I brought with me!).

YOU HAVE TO PLAN! If you know you are going to be gone all day, take nuts and other purse type snacks for when you get hungry.  This will help you avoid making "hungry decisions" which are irrational and usually BAD!

And, in preparation for eating out, do your research.  Research if the restaurants have healthy alternatives, nutritional menus, etc.  If they do NOT have a nutritional menu, DO NOT EAT THERE!  If you do not know what you are eating, DO NOT EAT IT!

I know many will encourage a cheat day, I do not.  I do encourage a cheat meal, but I will discuss that in Sunday's blog.

Now...its time for my P90X update for today, Day 4.  I still love it, but could not do the workout today. It was Yoga which I love, but it was at too high a physical level.  So, we popped in another Yoga video.  We are going to use a beginners Yoga for weight loss DVD for the next few cycles of Yoga. This way we can stay on point. Again, sometimes we need to modify...as long as you try and you keep moving, that is what is important.

I will be honest in that I feel like I did not workout as vigorously as I would have liked today.  And, as a result I was pouty all day.  Apparently, I need my workout to be in a good mood.
