P90X...Day 1

I did it!  I completed Day 1 of the workout.  Today's workout was chest and back and it ROCKED!  It felt so good to use those long dormant muscles, and this workout particularly appealed to me.  I think my husband was a little suprised to see the Athlete in me come screaming to the surface, especially at 6am!

Yes...I said 6am. (If my mother is reading this, someone needs to pick her up off the floor.)

Brian (the fabulous husband) and I talked about how best to proceed with my P90X training.  I thought: "I know I can just work out when I get home from work." The more we talked about it, the more I realized this was a BAD idea!

Albert Einstein defined Insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  Would it really be different this time?  Would I really work out when I got home from work?  NO!  I would just fall into the same pattern of behavior!

To be effective in any lifestyle choice, you have to change your HABITS! So, we decided the best thing to do was get up together at 530am on work days (and by 730am on late or non work days) to workout.  And, we are doing it together.  This gives me the support I need, we can work together to encourage each other (Brian is on week 2 of P90X). And, IT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM MY NORMAL MODE OF OPERATION!

Change is good people.  Change your cycle, change your schedule. Be successful!

I would be remiss if I did not touch on the change in diet as well.  Adding exercise is great, but I also need to change my eating habits.  I have chosen to follow the P90X meal plan with only a few minor adjustments.  I am eating 5 protein servings, 2 or more vegetables, 1 high fiber carb serving, 3 snacks...and I am minimizing fat and trying to stay within 1800 calories.  And, I am drinking LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of water.

Eating takes planning, if you fail to plan you should plan to fail.  I made lunches for the week on Sunday, pack my snacks the night before and literally feel like I take a suitcase of food with me to work.  But, it is healthy food! If I don't, I end up snacking at Starbuck's, eating McD or some other unhealthy choice. It's also important to keep it simple.  Less prep, less time, more likely to happen.

And, please use a food journal. I find it easiest to use an online food journal app through my IPhone.  My favorite is loseit.  You can access lose it through the app or online and you can allow others to view your tracker.  Please feel free to check out what I'm eating through the facebook loseit app: (http://www.facebook.com/loseitapp).

Speaking of food...it's time to start dinner.  We are having foreman grilled catfish seasoned with a chipotle pepper dry rub (no salt), over a bed of greans and topped with salsa.  Easy, tasty, healthy!
